It's a small styling detail that you may not have noticed, but it's one that both the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge appear to have adopted: while pregnant, both of the royal wives have worn shorter hemlines.
Due to the formal royal dress code, the Duchess of Cambridge is commonly seen in skirts or dresses that sit on or below the knee. However, during all three of her pregnancies Kate could be seen opting for a shorter length look.

As well as choosing summer dresses and dress coats of a slightly shorter length, Kate adopted the look in winter too, pairing shorter hemlines with opaque tights for a number of royal engagements.
So far, we've seen the Duchess of Sussex in a few shorter styles as well and, according to Cecile Reinaud, founder of Seraphine, a favourite maternity label of the Duchess of Cambridge, we can expect to see more. '[Meghan is] likely to have quite a big bump because she’s quite a petite build... so highlighting legs and arms is always a good trick to keep a nice silhouette.'
So watch this space for more chic maternity wear that flouts the traditional formal dress lengths.
