Drop everything and turn up your speakers because your Thursday just got a whole lot more lit. After releasing a teaser video for her forthcoming 'narrative film and accompanying musical album,' Dirty Computer, before some screenings of Black Panther, Janelle Monáe today confirmed the project's release date and premiered two eye-popping videos from it.
The funky, Prince-infused Make Me Feel features Tessa Thompson and Monáe on a night out at what appears to be the world's coolest club.
In addition to the visual and musical nods to the Purple—including a sick guitar riff on the chorus— the neon design in the video and sexy choreography calls to mind Beyoncé's video for all blended with Monáe's trademark futuristic funk.
The chest-thumping black resilience anthem Django Jane features Monáe rapping while backed by dancers giving a Rhythm Nation vibe. Featuring lines like 'Gemini they still jammin'/box office numbers and they doing outstanding/running out of space in my damn bandwagon/remember when they used to say I looked too mannish?' the song is all confidence and delicious swagger.
Notably, she's also rocking the kufi-style headpiece she first debuted at the Black Panther premiere.
If you're not one of the lucky few to have caught the Dirty Computer trailer in theatres, check it out below. And be sure to grab the full album, which she'll be releasing on her own imprint, Wondaland, on April 28.
