Nicholas Kirkwood was made design director of Pollini back in 2008, joining Jonathan Saunders as he took over as ready-to-wear director for the Italian brand. Saunders was responsible for overseeing the accessories brand's first clothing collection, but it seems that the new venture wasn't as successful as was hoped and the Brit designer left the company earlier this year.
Now Pollini has announced that it is to close its clothing line completely and focus on its strength - accessories. And, with that in mind, Nicholas Kirkwood has been promoted to creative director. He will debut his first collection at Milan Style Week this month.
According to WWD Kirkwood will also be overseeing a brand new project for the label, 'Pollini Forward Designers.' He has selected five up and coming designers that don't have sho lines and colloborated on footwear with them for their Spring/Summer 2010 collections. The chosen few? Preen, Meadham Kirchhoff, Michael van der Ham, Louise Gray and Manish Arora. Start saving now.
